Cluster post: Gender fight

People discover things about themselves in their lives. Some things won’t be accepted by society, like being gay or transgender. Luckily there is an increase of people accepting the fact that not all humans are heterosexual and born in the right body. 

What is it?

A store in Athens, Georgia has bathroom signs that won’t discriminate. The sign says UNISEX. The reason these toilets were made is because gender specific toilets could give people really uncomfortable situations. This is unique because in the USA there is a little riot over these of bathrooms by transgenders.  The sign in Athens got an extra note underneath it that says the bathroom is also for fathers with daughters, moms with sons, those in the LGBTQ community and more. People reacted extremely positive online. And now we can only hope this will grow further.

What is it?

mancarestore.nl, the website for men. Not only the men who are familiar with wearing make-up, it’s also for the normal men. Men are also using products to hide their imperfections. They just use it as naturally as possible. Why would they do that? It gives them more self confidence. 

By using a product that normally represents woman behavior, are men getting to know their girly side? or isn’t make-up just not that girly anymore?

What is it?

A womb transplant. Say what? Yes, even tough this is still developing, scientists discovered that besides woman or transgenders, also men will be able to get the womb transplant. Say what again?! This sounds so weird but at the same time so amazing and scary (what if men won't need us anymore?). This will give a lot of commotion and protest I think. Looking at the reactions over the gender neutral bathrooms. 

What is cool about this?

I think these things show us the fight we as a world are struggling with, the gender journey. In this society we are looking for a way to deal with the people who are different. Lots of people accept the people who are ‘different’, and lots of people have a hard time accepting them. 

By changing bathrooms or even men getting pregnant we have to open our mindset. Give people the chance to be who they want to be. In the Netherlands this gender thing is not that much of a big deal (at least that is what they say,but in real life things are different). But in the US it’s still a big deal to handle with the gender differences. 

The signals tell us that, even if there are still people who haven’t accept it,things soon will change a lot in society and it might be fun to watch this development.
