Copenhagen Wheel

In the Netherlands every kid learns how to ride a bicycle. In primary school we like to play with our bicycle and we love to go for a ride. But when we go to high school everything changes. For most children… Children like me, we had to cycle over an hour to get to school. And ever since I hated to go for a ride. It just costs too much energy. Now my grandparents have bought an electric bike a couple years ago and I’m just jealous… 

What is it? 

I In Copenhagen there is a new ‘gadget’ for your bike! It’s called the Copenhagen Wheel and it basically turns your bike into an e-bike in a few seconds. The Copenhagen Wheel created by the company Superpedestrian will support you while cycling. The wheel is connected with your smartphone and will give you lots of information. How you cycle, your speed, things along the way and more. It even saves information about the way you cycle. So if you are tired it will automatically give you more support.  

Why is it cool? 

The price and sustainability are what it makes it cool to my opinion. The price is around 600 Euros. Even though that’s a lot of money, it is way less expensive than buying a whole new electric bike. Then comes the fact that the only thing you replace is a wheel. You don’t have to buy a whole new bike and dump your old one. It is also nice that it connects with your smartphone. Other e-bikes won’t give you all of this information. 

Future growth potential 

I think the e-bike has a future, but it’s form is unknown. Maybe this Wheel is (one of) its forms. It clearly has to become less expensive to get really popular. But it is of course more sustainable than a scooter and with a little effort you can ride as fast as a scooter.  

Trend 

Stimulating people to take the bike has a sustainable aspect. The e-bike is a sustainable way of transport for the sustainable cities in the future. The internet of thing also suits because of all of the information it can give you through its application.  

Quality of Life 

The Copenhagen Wheel effects the psychical wellbeing, the material wellbeing and development and activities.
