Food intolerance

Of course we all know a couple of people who are always concerned with what they do or do not eat. The nagging over food. My new brother in law has a gluten intolerance, but at the beginning I didn’t believe it. These days everyone has an intolerance… But it turned out his one is true. An woman I know has like all of the food intolerances possible. Kinda weird to me.
What is it?
In an article I’ve read, chefs complained about all of those self-diagnosed people who say they really have an intolerance. Chefs these days have around five people per evening with an intolerance in their restaurant. Years ago they had one per week. An unusual hype, because doctors do not diagnose more food intolerances.
So chefs were complaining about this trend on a private Facebook group. The main question was how to deal with these so-called intolerances in their restaurant. It costs them a lot of extra time, because people who suffer for real still deserve all of the attention they need. Some chefs ask questions. They would ask for example to someone who says he has a gluten intolerance if it is coeliakie. And when he answers “Yes, please.”, is it clear he doesn’t have it. Because coeliakie is another word for a gluten intolerance. People who really suffer from an intolerance often report it while making the reservation.
The chefs think all of this nonsense comes from the increasing number of diet gurus on the internet. People like Renske Kroes who just scream ‘ban this food’ or ‘eat this’. And people believe they have to follow. Only because they want to be as happy as the Instagram account of their favorite diet guru.
Why is it cool?
I don’t think this is cool. But it’s clearly happening. I think we are all overreacting about food. We want to live the healthy lifestyle more than ever. And by all the information provided by the internet we believe one week we have to eat this and the next week we will never eat it again. And next month we swear it is the best for your body.
Future growth potential
I think we have to get back to just a normal diet. We should stop believing all of the online nonsense. But as we see, people still trust just uneducated people screaming on the internet. Why don’t we listen to experts who studied for this? Just because they don’t have a fancy Instagram account?

For all of the chefs who struggle with those intolerances, often people who just don’t like the taste of some food, the best is to just accept. We can’t ask the costumer a medical certificate by entering the restaurant.
Trend
A part of this is caused by the open world trend. Because of the internet we find all of these things from all over the world. Also the invisible power links to it, because all of those diet guru’s have more power than we think. Often they just say eat this because they are sponsored by a certain brand. Should we believe them? For the restaurants, What way? My way! suits. People just want to get everything as they like it the best.
Quality of Life
This involves the material wellbeing, psychical wellbeing and development and activities.
