Lopfit

On the sixth of May of this year I went to Texel with my dad. Texel is an island by the Netherlands. We went to Texel to cycle for a day. During our trip, we saw an unusual conveyance. It was like an electric bike. But also like fitness equipment like a treadmill.

What is it?

Lopfit is a new way of walking. The Lopfit is an electric bicycle which you have to walk on. It’s like fast walking, you can reach up to 20 km/h. Bruin Bergmeester came with the idea of a bicycle to walk on. He got inspired by the treadmill in the gym and since it is produced it got populair all over the world. Bruin Bergmeester created his prototype at home in Drenthe, the Netherlands. Now it’s available in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Norway, the States and the Middle East.

You can rent a Lopfit for a day or a for a couple of hours, it costs 30 to 40 Euros. You can also buy one for 1.699 Euro. It comes in six colors.

Why is it cool?

Intensive walking is better than riding a bicycle, and the Lopfit makes walking more fun. Walking, running, cycling is all better than riding in your car getting fat and destroying the world. Lopfit is sustainable, but I don’t think it is more sustainable than cycling,.since I can cycle as fast with my non electric bicycle. However it might motivate people to make the sustainable choice.

Future growth Potential

I don’t think this will get as big as the regular bicycle is in the Netherlands. Now Lopfit is still way too expensive to get popular enough to buy it. But when I saw it I thought I would like to try it! So for a day it would be fun I guess.

Trend

The Lopfit suits the Sustainability trend, although it still is an electric device. But it may be a part of the future sustainable cities.
